Multilingualism in Casamance
This project aims to map multilingual language use in Casamance, Senegal, where there is a high degree of individual and societal multilingualism. In Agnack Grand, for example, at least 20 languages are spoken, with individuals speaking anywhere from 4 to 14 languages each. Some recordings displayed in this project are clips taken from longer recordings of naturalistic speech. Others are clips from sociolinguistic interviews or specially recorded files. Many have been transcribed and translated into French by Alpha, from Agnack Petit.
