Croatian speech soundscape; a generation's story

As students of linguistics at Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, Croatia, we were asked to support Language Landscape in the best way we could - by taking part in it and submitting our own recordings. Since we find that a child's mind works in ways far more agreeable than those of dull adults, we hereby provide an insight into this interesting world of language and/or language acquisition. Here we have a generational overview of men reading the same story; we hope you enjoy. The story they were given to read is written in a different dialect so it was interesting to see how they accommodate it to their own. THE GYPSY AND THE TURKEY

The Gypsy came by a farmer, and in front of his house there was a turkey - all bristled up. When the Gypsy spotted the turkey, he started running towards the door but the farmer cried out:
- Where are you running to? Come back!
The Gypsy said he would come, were he not afraid of that beast. The farmer calmed him down saying he needn't be afraid, for the beast was harmless and wouldn't hurt anyone. He told him to proceed. The Gypsy followed shoulder to shoulder with the farmer and asked:
- Where does this beast sleep? I'm very scared.
The Farmer told him he shouldn't be afraid because the beast sleeps in the henhouse. That night the Gypsy came and snatched the turkey.
