The speaker gives an introduction to the modalities and habits concerning the day of St. Martin of Tours, which in this case is celebrated, atypically, on november 10th, in the village she grew up in. Originally the children of poor folk would go around and sing for an apple, a pear or a nut. They would receive those from people at whose door they performed the song(presented here as a poem).
